I've decided to build a business based on my Anomy sanitizer. This decision was made after a lot of soul searching, which made me realize the following two things: I'm bored at work. I'm excited about Anomy. No one who knows me is in the least surprised. I'm pretty sure that people would pay me for the security the sanitizer can provide - so why not run with it?

I'm currently looking for a company that is willing to do things more-or-less my way (someone who likes my ideas) and will pay me a salary to build the necessary software. The company must be willing to grow the project as much as possible - I don't want to limit myself to Iceland, this thing is useful for anyone using e-mail. I don't want to do marketing or management. I do want to own a percentage of the resulting company or product - I want a say in things, and a percentage of the profits. Finally, I have obligations here at Tern, which I fully intend to fulfill (I don't want to leave them without completing at least one project). So my partner will need to be willing to hire me part-time and share me with Tern.

So far I've discussed my ideas with two companies - Margmiðlun and Friðrik Skúlason. Margmiðlun offered me a pretty sweet deal, but I won't know until Monday how interested Friðrik Skúlason is in the idea and what they are willing to pay to have a part in it.

I've also mentioned the idea to a friend of mine (Rikki) at Opin Kerfi and discussed it with the the Icelandic NSA (a VC fund :). It'll be interesting to see how things develop over the next few days.

Finally, don't worry - I'm not selling out completely. The sanitizer will remain GPL'ed, or I won't do this at all. I fully intend to have my cake and eat it too. :-)
