My diary now generates an RSS dump

2000-08-21 17:16
Well, this is something I've been planning for a while, and happens to be something I think every single regularly updated diary/weblog style page out there should do: make an RSS dump available.

The concept is explained on WebReference, but in short this is the first step to letting interested parties include my diary in their customized news summary pages, such as my.netscape.com or my.userland.com.

I haven't registered my dump anywhere yet, since I'm not sure it's valid or that I won't move it around or something... but at least it's there. I challenge all the bloggers and Tolli to do likewise.

Update: Read about xmltree and email updates.
Update 2: For the record, Már has set me straight and explained to me the difference between RSS and RDF. But since I don't want to break links, I'm not going to rename the file. Just pretend that .rdf means "RSS dump file". :-)
Update 3: nagPortal tracks my diary by checking the RSS dump.
Update 4: I've added a slightly different RSS dump, this one giving an overview of the activity in my diary - this tracks not only new entries but new comments and modified entries as well.
