Today I got a surprise e-mail from the Icelandic Red Cross.
Seems they noticed the lump of cash I put in their bank account last January and decided to track me down. They sent me a thank-you note using the contact form on this web-site.
According to the message my donation will be used to help poor children with AIDS (or AIDS-related problems?) in Southern Africa. I hadn't earmarked the money in any way, so I guess that's where they feel it's most needed.
Pretty cool!
In related news, a few of days ago my EFF t-shirt arrived and it fits me nicely. So I guess 'tis the season for feeling good about charitable donations. And bragging about them, obviously (a.k.a. leading by example).
