This afternoon we were somewhat taken aback by how suddenly it had gotten foggy. We couldn't see a thing out the window anymore! And what was that odd crackling sound?
Turns out it wasn't fog, it was smoke.
A small, derelict house in the run-down lot across the street was all ablaze. I dialled 112 and reported a fire, but by then they had already received a few calls.
Maybe ten minutes later, four fire engines showed up and over a dozen or so firemen began bustling about, stringing hoses all over the place, messing about with ladders, getting things quite wet and eventually putting out the fire. Then they just as quickly packed up and drove off; within 30 minutes of the fire being out, they were gone.
The little house across the road had, in under two hours, been reduced to steaming ruins. Very dramatic!
We took loads of pictures. They'll hopefully show up on Annie's flickr page one of these days, when she's not too busy being a fabulous movie maker. ;-)
