Last Saturday night I attended the Irish Blog Awards with Annie, who was nominated for two awards.
It was good fun.
It also felt a little odd (in a good way) to be attending as a boyfriend, not as a blogger. I wore a name-tag which identified me as "Annie Rhiannon's Icelandic Man", not as bre.klaki.net, in spite of the fact that I've probably been blogging longer than most (or even all?) of the other people there.
The other role I wasn't playing, was that of the computer geek and Google employee. Again, in spite of the fact that I spent the afternoon before the awards helping the Blogger team track down the comment-captcha problem (not really my job, but I was interested) and the day after the awards learning all about Blogger's new templating system (it's awesome!) so I could help Annie implement her fabulous new template.
At the awards, I was both an undercover blogger geek, and an undercover geek blogger.
All eyes were on Annie and the other nominees, I was free to dance and drink and chat with other people about their blogs and their jobs.
I kinda liked it.
My only regret is I did such a good job not being a geek, that we missed the eclipse of the moon.
