Oh the joys of crappy tech products...
Being an impatient internet addict, I couldn't wait for my phone line + ADSL to show up (4 weeks? Are you nuts?) so I got myself a wireless connection from Irish Broadbaned called Ripwave to tide me over in the meantime.
I had already read online that the service was crap, but I didn't expect it to be so crappy as to be usually entirely unusable, which is what I've been experiencing for the past few days.
Tonight, heartened by my success fixing Klaki, I decided to have a go at debugging my own Internet connection.
I tried moving it to a different part of the flat, but being a lazy git I didn't move the wireless AP, I just plugged the Ripwave into the Ubuntu-Mac (Annie's old iBook) and lo and behold - it worked.
Strange how easy that was. So I moved the wireless AP to the new location and plugged it in. No Internet.
Plugged the Ripwave back into the Ubuntu box... and it worked.
So now I'm blaming my el-cheapo Canyon Broadband Router and Access Point. No surprise there really, it was very cheap and based on the ASP control interface it has either some breed of Windows or software inspired by Windows inside it.
That's just wrong!
After a factory reset of the Crapyon everything seems to work again, but who knows for how long. Maybe if I just resist the urge to configure it or press buttons it will continue working.
We'll see. I have backup plans in case it doesn't.

In much happier news, some of my fellow Googlers have ported FUSE to Mac OS X! This means I'll be able to use sshfs from my Mac!
