A Google party

2006-12-03 18:05

Last Friday I went to the Mountain View office's Christmas party. Of course it wasn't called a Christmas party, since that's not politically correct. The theme had nothing to do with Christianity either, it was the Googolympus.

Like everything else Googly, the party was massive.

Two warehouses taken over and decorated, various rooms using themes from Greek mythology. Food, wine, beer, entertainment, lots of games. There were pool tables, ping-pong tables, basketball courts, spray-on tattoos, dance floors and video games. A "scuba diver" suspended from the ceiling and "swimming" around overhead. And lots of other stuff I failed to notice or can't be bothered to mention.

Poseidon threatened to turn me into sushi if I hit on his mermaid daughter. There was alot of sushi going around, I guess he had a busy night.

I mostly wandered around, bumping into people and chatting.

I was a little surprised to find that I knew a lot of them. Just like at any party back home I could wander around aimlessly and count on bumping into someone I knew to have a chat. Of course many of them were on my team, people I work with day to day, but quite a few were from other groups as well.

I think that means I've been doing a good job socializing here during the past couple of months.

Part of me is going to miss the people here when I leave for Dublin. I only have two weekends left here! But I'll be back, I'm sure.

Today I'm going flying North along the California coast with another coworker...
