Does pursing your lips and squinting your eyes really help focus the mind or does it just feel that way?

Funny how mannerisms are contagious. I have a friend who does that all the time (it looks very cute when she does it, incidentally) and I just caught myself making the exact same expression while concentrating on a problem at work. I felt quite focused until I got distracted by realizing what I was doing.
