The mailing-list invite is clear indication that these messages are spam - who would try to invite a mailing-list to a web site? I read rumours online that if you sign up, then SMS.AC will automatically go through your personal contact lists and send invitations via. e-mail without asking permission, forging your name and "signature".
Evil, bad spam!
I don't know whether SMS.AC offers a legitimate service or not, but this web-site certainly raises some interesting questions and is cause for caution. When an offer seems "too good to be true", it usually isn't.
Updated 2005-02-17: SMS.AC have started sending me
threatening e-mail
because of this diary entry. Not nice!
